Dominant religion in Thailand.

Buddhism in Thailand is quite peculiar. It’s shifted from doctrine of self salvation to ethical standards.

Most important is not meditation and nirvana philosophy, but quite understandable and common concept of karma and rebirth, merit and sin, therefore Thai people believe in the influence of this things on their life.  Moreover, while gaining those merits, people don’t become egomaniacs, because methods of gaining merits are acts of charity and performance of basic concepts: don’t kill, refrain from lying, stealing, adultery and drunkenness.

Correct behavior towards others, keeping good human relations – necessary conditions to build positive karma. Ideal behavior is considered as moderation, peaceful mind, and nonaggression. Calm and endurance – is the standard of social relations.
